Frequently asked questions:
What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a state of deep relaxation, which allows you to gain access to parts of the brain that not only contain your conscious and unconscious memories, but also your thoughts, beliefs, perceptions, sensations, and emotions. It also allows you to access moments where potential unwanted behaviours originate.
Hypnosis is a state where a person is more open to gentle guidance and increased suggestibility, which makes hypnosis a really effective therapy tool, as well as lead to an accelerated therapy outcome for you and the life challenges you wish to work on.
The feeling of hypnosis is usually described by my clients as deeply physically relaxing, as well as a feeling of gently drifting and floating. During hypnosis there will be moments where you can consciously hear and remember what is being said, and at other moments you may drift into such a deep relaxation that you cannot consciously hear and remember.
Both states are natural and equally effective during therapy. At times clients do fall asleep during their session, however, the treatment is still effective as the client is in a relaxed state during their sleep and their unconscious mind in a state of allowance.
Being hypnotised does not mean that any control is lost by you, or that personal information that you do not wish to be revealed is shared. You have full control of this aspect of hypnosis and a therapist cannot force you to do anything that you are not in agreement with. During hypnosis you will be able to open your eyes, move and even walk around.
Any topics addressed and any suggestions given during your session will only be done so via prior agreement with you.
The effectiveness of hypnosis is depending upon you, your allowance of relaxation and letting go, as well as your general ability to allow hypnosis to be performed on you. As with a lot of things in life, deep relaxation is a skill that can take a little time to learn, but with perseverance, most people can successfully be hypnotised.
The length of a hypnotherapy session varies. Personalised 1 to 1 Sessions are usually 1 hour long. Past Life Therapy Sessions can be up to 4 hours long.
Tell me more about 1 to 1 session and Past Life Therapy Session
1 to 1 Personalised Hypnotic interventions are targeted sessions for modifying unwanted behaviours, emotions, and stress responses. This allows for a restructuring of your thought processes leading to long lasting change.
We will always discuss beforehand as well as agree upon the changes you are seeking so your therapy session will focus on your benefit and healing.
Past Life Therapy sessions focus on emotional traumas, chronic pains, and recurring patterns in your life. Because hypnotherapy allows you to be in a state of higher understanding and focus, these sessions allow you to gain a different perspectives of the challenge you are working with. Past Life Therapy sessions often help to discover the “point of origin” of a problem, which subsequently encourages a deep healing experience. These sessions are very personalised and can be life transforming.
Whichever session you would like to book, it will include an initial discussion about the issues of concern, as well as a chat about the type of hypnotherapeutic interventions that would benefit you the most.
Your sessions are all treated with full confidentially.
What happens after I have had a hypnosis session?
After a hypnosis session most people will experience a feeling or relaxation and calmness. It is also normal to feel emotional after a session, as supressed feelings can surface as part of the healing process.
You will need to allow time for your subconscious mind to incorporate the changes, suggestions, healing, and experiences from your session. This is a gradual process and takes time. The amount of time is different for each person, as you are unique, so is your integration period.
After your session it is important to stay hydrated, which perhaps can include a light snack.
How many sessions do I need to resolve my challenge?
For personalised 1 to 1 sessions where you work on a specific issue, you will always receive written acknowledgment of the issue you would like to work on, as well as the amount of sessions that I believe you would benefit from as a therapist. It therefore helps discussing future sessions. Most challenges can be resolved between 4 to 6 sessions.
For Past Life Therapy sessions where you work on emotional traumas, chronic pains, recurring patterns in your life, you may find that one session is enough for you and has resolved what needed to be resolved. In some cases, you may feel the need for more sessions. You will know if you require further sessions. This will be entirely led by you.
Feedback is important for you and for me, so I can help you stay focused on your healing journey.
What happens after I have completed my healing session(s)?
Changes can continue to develop and solidify over the coming days, weeks and months. Be patient with yourself and take the time to observe these gradual positive transformations. During that time there are a number of things you can do to help your ongoing healing journey, and we can discuss what would work best for you. You could consider the following though….
Reflective journaling - Writing down your thoughts and feelings after your session can help you track your progress as well as provide insights on your healing journey over time.
Support networks - I encourage my clients to engage with a supportive network after their session, as this support can be instrumental in your healing journey. This can be friends and family members or joining the Healing a Moment in Time Facebook group to share and discuss experiences.
Hypnotherapy is a respected therapeutic practice. It is used to help with emotional healing as well as personal growth, by providing you with a deeper understanding of your healing needs.
I thought that only certain people can be hypnotised?
95% of the population can be hypnotised. However, you must be willing to engage in the process as well as trust the process. Please feel free to ask further questions and I will be happy to answer and explain your personalised session approach with you.
Can I get stuck during hypnosis?
No, you cannot. You can come out of a hypnotic state anytime you wish to do so. You are generally aware of yourself as well as your surroundings.
Can Hypnotherapy be against my beliefs?
Hypnotherapy does not lean itself towards any particular believe system, which therefore makes it compatible with all belief systems. Hypnotherapy sessions are about self-empowerment and mental wellness.
